I haven't been able to make up my mind about selling my wedding dress, so I've decided to put it to a vote. What do you think? Especially those of you who have been married for a while, do you really care about your dress now or is it just taking up space? I remember when I plunked down the $700 for it I kept thinking to myself: WHY am I not renting a dress??? But then I was glad to have it for pictures after our sealing, but now I'm not sure I'll ever care. I mean, seriously. I value my closet space (winks)

Well, I kept my wedding dress until about 5 years ago. It was in my basement in its bag and I never did a thing with it...
I know my girls would not wear it, I wouldn't wear it, so why not let someone else get some use out of it?
Then, my friend told me about a wedding she went to and there was the great grandma's, grandma's and mother of the bride's dresses on display and that was cool...
I thought for a minute and decided I am still glad I gave mine away...
My aunt made my wedding dress, so I felt like I couldn't sell it. When Ellie was born, I had my friend (Sara Frisby Collett) make a blessing dress out of it for her. One thing Sara told me was to keep my veil, and my sash intact so I have those as momentos. So, if you do decide to sell it, keep your beil and shoes or something. Although, I don't think that I kept my shoes.
I still have mine and I don't think I could ever bear to part with it even though it will never be worn again. That's just me, though. I'm the most sentimental person alive. Caleb would sell it in a heartbeat if I let him.
Oh, I forgot to answer one more question. No, it's not taking up my space...it's taking my parent's space in their basement. :) That's the way to do it.
I'm glad that you wrote about this. I have my dress too, and I too wish that I wouldn't have rented a dress. I don't know what to do with it. I'll never use it again, I don't know anyone who would want it. Jason's cousin bought her dress at DI and was so glad to have found one there...maybe that's what I need to do with mine. Let me know what you decide.
I kept mine and it does get in the way at times, but I think I would be sad if I didn't keep it.
By the way, I love the picture of you at the top of your blog! So pretty!
I sold mine. I am a very sentimental person, but it was taking up space and I realized that there was some other girl out there looking for a modest wedding dress that wanted to make memories of her own. I have pictures and I still have my jewelry and my headpiece I wore. My daughters won't wear it and besides, they have memories of their own to make!
I've been intending to sell mine since about two months after we got married but haven't gotten around to it. I think my daughters will be too tall for it anyway thanks to those Thomas genes. Thanks for the reminder to sell it!
That is a tough one. I still have mine and would love to see Mara wear in in 20 years, even if it's just to play in. I am somewhat of a pack-rat, but I love my dress and am keeping it forever!
I sold mine and made a sweet $400 bucks. But I have a rule: If I haven't worn something in a year, it gets the boot.
I'm catching up on my favorite blogs today for the first time in 2 weeks, so I'm late weighing in. My advice: take a bunch of close-up pictures of the details so you'll have the memories and sell the thing to some little bride who needs a deal. Clean up your domicile, make money, make somebody happy. What a deal!
Sell. I don't have any cute story or explanation. Sell. I want to sell mine too.
somehow I have my dress AND one of brookes! more than I need, but you never know when she'll need one again so I'll hang on a little longer :D
