Joseph Smith: The Prophet Concert

Trianna invited us to the Tabernacle to watch her husband (Ryan) perform in "Joseph Smith : The Prophet". The show was amazing! Scott and I had both seen it performed previously but this blew the others out of the water. There was a 300 member choir and almost a full orchestra, all conducted by the composer who wrote the piece when he was only 22 years old! The Spirit was very strong and I got really teary several times. "Praise To The Man" indeed!

As an added bonus, President Monson and his wife, followed by President Uchtdorf, came to watch as well! They were sitting just a few rows back from us and graciously smiled for the camera.

Better Late Than Never

So...Tom (Elder Shoell) left back in October and I'm just now posting these pictures. So here we go!

I love this picture of Tom and Dad :)

Pasta Bake

A few months ago I threw some stuff together and made a really good meal that Scott loves! (he's a picky eater so I get excited over things that he actually likes!) It's easy, and makes a lot of food. We have it for dinner, lunch for Scott the next day, and dinner again! Here's what you do:
1lb Ground Beef (I like to use extra lean)
Box Rotini Pasta (in pic above)
Large Can/bottle of marinera sauce (I use a tall can of Hunts Four Cheese Marinera Sauce)
1 small can of tomato sauce
1 pkg shredded mozzarella cheese
Optional ingredients:
Minced garlic (to cook with the beef)
sliced mushrooms
sliced olives
diced tomatoes
Brown ground beef
Cook Pasta according to directions on package.
In a 9x13 pan, mix cooked pasta, ground beef, marinera & tomato sauce (and anything else you want to add). Sprinkle with mozzarella cheese. Bake at 350 degrees for about 10 min. or until cheese is melted.
ENJOY!! :)

If you like peanut butter...

You need to try these Peanut Butter Fingers! I made them for Scott and they were a hit!

Mix together:
3/4 cup butter (melted)
1/2 cup sugar
1 egg
1 cup brown sugar

Add:
3/4 cup peanut butter
1/2 Tbsp Vanilla
3/4 Tbsp flour
2 cups oats

Milk Chocolate chips

Frosting : 1 1/2 cup powdered sugar
3/4 cup peanut butter
Milk (enough to make frosting spreadable)

Spread into 9x13 pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 15 - 20 minutes or until edges are golden brown. Remove from oven. Sprinkle 1/2 pkg chocolate chips over hot bars. (let them sit for a few minutes - they'll melt) Spread evenly. Frost when completely cool.

A Not-So-Smelly Perm

Sue came into school to get her hair permed, which was great because perm models are hard to find! (We have to have a model in order to pass off different skills).
The first part of the perm wasn't real easy. Sue's hair is pretty thin ontop of her head so it was very difficult to role in the rods. I was almost in tears! But it got better :) Trianna and Brittany helped too so we could all get the experience and pass off a perm.
After we poured on the perm solution, Sue was amazed at how non-smelly the solution was! She was very excited that it didn't stink and that it wasn't burning her scalp. After processing for 20 minutes, we took her over to the shampoo bowls to rinse. Over walks Janean (one of our instructors who was watching over us that day) carrying a small bottle that had come in the perm box. With wide eyes she said, "Did you mix the "A" and "B" bottles?" We about died!
Apparently each type of perm is different. Some you do need to mix, some you don't, some have a 3rd bottle that are for conditioning the hair after you've pulled out the rods. The perm we'd practiced on our mannequins had the 3rd little bottle for conditioning; the instructor that day hadn't mentioned that all the perms are different!
Thankfully, Sue is a sweetie and just laughed...we tried to laugh but it was kind of horrifying. Thankfully we hadn't taken out the rods!
So....we mixed the "A" and "B" bottle, and suddenly it was like a regular perm: Stinky.
Her hair actually turned out really cute so we were excited :)
Thanks a million to Sue for A) trusting us and B) laughing with us.
*** I also passed off my men's cut; Steven Monson grew his hair out especially so I could cut it. Yay Steven!

SUPERSTAR

Brian (Carey) played the Mayor and was in the ensemble in Lone Peak's production of "Bye Bye Birdie". It was a really funny show!

Let's do color!

Missy and Mel came to school to get their hair colored so we could pass off our "all over colors".

Mel decided she wanted to do some blonde and Brittany did Missy's hair with really pretty "chocolate and chili pepper" colors mixed together.
